Plaza del Jubileo ETFE Roof

Bogotá, Colombia

Konrad Brunner Architects proposed a way to cover the main square of the Urban Recreation Center of Compensar in Bogota, Colombia, with a large lightweight structure that manages to configure different spatialities in the same place.

Four large pillars support an extensive covering, generating an open floor plan with enough flexibility to accommodate various activities. In a lightweight and non-invasive manner, a stage of 3,140 square meters is configured, with the capacity to accommodate over 1,400 seated people or more than 3,500 in concert mode.

The structure, inspired by the Water Cube in Beijing — the symbol of the 2008 Olympic Games — seeks to innovate in architectural design by working with different structural and technical possibilities achieved through its materiality. ECLLC designed the semitransparent ETFE covering of the Jubilee Plaza that protects against water and solar exposure, allowing users to experience changes in the environment.
